SOYBEAN processing

Soybeans need to be cooked before swine can utilize this very valuable protein source.  The heating of the soybeans to a temperature great than 275 degrees F destroys an enzyme that inhibits the pig's gut from digesting the protein. The Extruder (pictured below) allows us to process the soybeans that we grow on our farm, which makes our farm that much more self-sufficient.

The temperature gauge to right reads 200 degrees F and the gauge to the left reads 250 degrees F.

Another 30 degrees F  is added in the final stage of the processing, resulting in a final exit temperature of 280 degrees F.

This still picture doesn't show it well, but the soyameal when it hits the peak of the pile is actually molten and by the time it flows a short distance it turns granular.  The video shows it much better.
