HUBER
FARMS
HISTORY
We moved onto this farm which consisted of house and
barn on 132 acres some livestock and machinery. This took place on January 18, 1956. The farm was seen in November of 1955 but because the land
was covered with snow Frank and Joyce decided to wait until spring to see about
purchasing. The owner died in
December of that year and the widow wanted Frank and Joyce to take the farm as
soon as possible if they were still interested.
There were no financial arrangements made so the widow agreed to wait
until June. By June the
arrangements were made with a Junior Farmer Loan program from the government,
the widow was paid, and Frank and Joyce were officially farmers!
In 1960 Frank approached the owner about renting the
barn were the beef cattle are housed now.
The owner suggested to Frank that he purchase the whole farm.
They agreed on a price and shook hands and the deal was closed in one
year’s time. This farm consisted
of a bank barn badly needing repair and 100 acres.
In 1967 another opportunity arose to purchase the
next farm down the road. This farm
was bought with the aid of a government program called ARDA that was a 10-year
lease with a buy option at the end of the term. This farm consisted of a house, barn and 200 acres.
In 1995 Robert and Heather bought a 40-acre parcel
that is located at the highway corner.
The 420 acres that are workable have been
systematically tile drained over the years.
There have been numerous building projects,
